Great 1936 FA Cup Final special edition of Weekly Illustrated

In really good condition and featuring some fantastic articles aside
16 inches high x 11.25 cm wide (22.5 cm when spread out, as it is now while writing this)
A big wonderous visit to 1936 for the time.
After the Cup Final pages, we have a one page advert which declares itself to be “The ten-minute smoke for intelligent folk”
Different times.
Page 9: “Arsenal giant at home”: Eddie Hapgood. Again (as on nearly every page) there’s BIG photos and here we witness the warmth of Eddie at home with the Mrs and the kids.
Oo… England captain as well.
Great ad for Cadburys Fruit & Nut on Captain Ed’s page as well
Three more great ads on the next page, then we’ve got page 11…
Wow.
It’s brought us to the funeral of a Borneo Chief and a big photo of the Dead Chief “with a necklace of panthers’ claws round his neck. The skulls of his enemies are set before him”
Nice.
They do have (or did have) a decent way of distributing the dead chiefs belongings: The priest of the tribe takes the dead man’s hand and points to something, then at a relative, who gets it.
“The priest is always loyal to the dead man’s wishes”
Page 12, another class full page advert to encourage ladies to smoke: “Made especially to prevent sore throats”
ok
13: “A King at Play”
Ahh… This is mad. The King of Siam, who’s been on the throne for just over a year, is 10-years old
Goes to school in England. Again: Fantastic photos
“We fly the Atlantic in the Hindenburg”
Good luck with that
This is fantastic. Two page spread of wonder
Couple more pages of great adverts and something about a zoo. Now, we get to my favourite bit:
“PHOTOCRIME No 17: Theft at a seance”
Brilliant. Tough as well. You’ve really got to examine the photos carefully. The answer’s on a separate page and is also great in it’s detail. I didn’t get the right culprit. And even when I knew the right answer I still had trouble figuring it out ;-
Anyway. Yes. More pages of brilliance until it ends on the back page 28
