“Pochoir (French for “stencil”) is a stencil-based printing technique where layers of color are applied by hand through a series of pre-cut stencils to build up an image. This labor-intensive process, which involves a separate stencil for each color and hand-applied paint with brushes or sponges, creates rich, layered colors and textures, often resulting in prints that are indistinguishable from hand-painted originals. Pochoir was popular in early 20th-century Europe, particularly France, for producing high-quality illustrations for books and fashion”
