Calming Buddhist Mudra hand on wooden base.
A very dear friend who knows much about these things said:
“Your version of the hand sculpture shows a gesture (mudra) that is said to help guide during meditation practice towards the transmission of the Buddha’s teachings. The saying goes that the hand is there to assist with the transfer of knowledge, and to help remove any fear or obstructive thoughts.
More often you’ll see the hand sculpture shown in a more recognised mudra, where the thumb and index finger touch (Vitarka).
These hand sculptures are more than just a spiritual ornament, they can be a focus point during meditation. As some use the flame of a candle or the centre of a mandala to bring their focus to, so can focus in on the hand.”
